Mewa Khola Hydroelectric Project (MeKHP) is a Run-of-river type (RoR) project with an installed capacity of 50 MW using design discharge of 33.0 m3/sec and gross head 198.78 m located in Taplejung district of Province 1 (previously, Mechi zone in Eastern Development region) of Nepal.
This district is bordered by India in the east and China in the north, Sankhuwasabha in the west and Panchthar and Tehrathum districts in the south.
The entire project components are located along the right bank of Mewa khola within Meringden Gaupalika (previously Thukima
and Lingtep VDCs) and Mikkwakhola Gaupalika (previously Khokling VDC) of Taplejung district.
The Project area lies at 20 km north-west of Phunglin Bazaar. The boundaries of the project area are: latitude 27° 26’ 52” N to 27°
24’ 08” N, and longitude 87° 37’ 15” E to 87° 36’ 40” E.
The generated power is evacuated through the 132 kV transmission line of 12 km length. The transmission line connects to the national grid through the proposed Hangpang substation.
The project is being developed by United Mewa Khola Hydropower Pvt. Ltd.
