Rolwaling Khola Hydropower Project area is located in the Gaurishankar Rural Municipality and Bigu Rural Municipality, Dolakha District, Bagmati Province. The Rolwaling Khola Hydropower Project (88MW) is designed as a run-of-river scheme. This project is owned by H.E.D. Energy Private Limited. Geographically the area lies between latitude 27º52‟55” N to 27º55‟20” N and longitudes 86º16‟00” E to 86º20‟55” E. The proposed project area lies at an elevation between 2443 m to 5178 m above mean sea level.
The project area comprises headworks at 150m upstream from the confluence with Thangthing Khola and Rolwaling Khola whereas Powerhouse lies at 1.6 km downstream of confluence of Rolwaling Khola with Ghodchadi Khola. The proposed system comprises a diversion weir, intake, gravel trap, settling basin, approximately 4.86 km headrace tunnel, surge shaft, pressure waterway, underground powerhouse with Pelton turbines, and tailrace tunnel. The generated power will be evacuated through an approximately 8.5 km, 132 kV double-circuit transmission line to the New Lamabagar Substation.
Overall, the design integrates underground civil structures, high-head hydraulic equipment, and grid-connected electrical systems to achieve efficient and reliable renewable power generation. With appropriate geological, hydraulic, environmental, and structural considerations during detailed design and construction, the project can make a significant contribution to Nepal’s clean-energy generation and regional development.
